Even through OakDOT has been extremely poor at communicating about the Park Blvd project, the word is out, and now the community is engaged, outraged, and demanding action – join us!
The repeatedly poor communication by OakDOT, trying to quietly push projects through under the radar, such as Grand Avenue was the main motivation for establishing “Keep Oakland Moving”. If OakDOT had properly listened and supported the community originally, this may not have been necessary – take note of that Oakland Council, staff and agencies – THE PEOPLE OF OAKLAND WILL HOLD YOU TO ACCOUNT.
Several neighbor groups met with council representatives, traffic engineers, and neighborhood groups to highlight the deficiencies in the Park Blvd projects. We had the opportunity to walk the project, highlight the areas where the proposed changes were not appropriate, and our voice was heard.
Time and time again, the traffic engineers emphasized that this project was NOT A DONE DEAL and that far more outreach and data studies were needed. They were given many suggestions, made notes, and will be HELD ACCOUNTABLE by the community to ensure our needs are met. Council members who had not been engaged, and lacked any interest are NOW INVOLVED and will be actively petitioned by the community.
We have started, we have the momentum, we will not be trampled over anymore – it’s time to demand the safety that we need – USING THE BEST OPTION – not the option preferred by the minority, or the cheapest, or the fastest – BUT THE BEST.
